U Rock

I have used some of my favourite colour combinations on this card with the stamp sets Grunge Rock, Perfect Words and Teeny Tiny Sentiments.  DSP is the Mocha Morning Specialty Paper Stack.

I have entered this card in two challenges this week using the Tic Tac Toe challenge at The Paper Players and the sketch #252 at Mojo Monday.

In the Tic Tac Toe Challenge I chose the down line of Favourite Colour, Masculine and Punches.

Dynamic Duos #13 - Monochromatic Challenge

The challenge this week at Dynamic Duos is Monochromatic using the colours of Early Espresso and Crumb Cake.  Neutrals such as black, white, vanilla, skin colours and kraft can also be used.

Field Flowers meet Tea Shoppe for my card.  I have used the tea cup as a vase for my flowers that have been stamped with Crumb Cake on Whisper White with the centres being stamped with Early Espresso.  The leaves are made using the Blossom Builder punch, folded in half and put through the crimper to give them the veins for some definition.

Simply Stampin' Challenge Top 3

I made the Top 3 this week for the "Vintage" theme at Simply Stampin' Challenge.  I did have fun making this card.

JAI 128 - Inspirational Photo - Flower Garden Pop-up Box Card

In April this year I learnt how to make a pop-up box card at Crafty Capers.  I really enjoyed the class that was created by Natalie and Jill and have made another card using alternative products.  This card lies flat and fits into a C6 envelope so is easy to post.

The Designer Series Paper is from the Mocha Morning Speciality Pack, cardstock is Old Olive, Wild Wasabi, Always Artichoke, Soft Suede, Melon Mambo, Blushing Bride, Regal Rose and Very Vanilla.

I used a lot of punches and dies on this card, being Scallop Trim Border (this creates the fence around the garden), Scallop Oval, Boho Blossoms, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, Bird Builder, Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die, Little Leaves Sizzlits Die and the Magnetic Movers & Shapers Punch Window Die.  Basic Jewel Rhinestones were used for the flower centres and 5/8" Pretty in Pink Satin Ribbon for around the box and the butterfly in the flower garden is attached to a piece of Word Window Sheet.   The leaves from the Little Leaves Sizzlits Die were put through the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder to give them some texture.

The pop-up mechanism in the card is made from On Board Sheets and hat elastic.

I have entered this card in the Just Add Ink inspirational photo challenge this week.

Dynamic Duos #12 - Black Tie

The challenge this week at Dynamic Duos is Black tie colour choice! Poppy Parade, Basic Black and a desert option to use Punches.

I have pondered for days on this challenge, having several false starts along the way.  I had to get my act together this morning as the challenge closes today.  So here is my finished card.

Sentiment is from the "Sprinkled Expressions" set from the recent Sale-a-Bration.  I have used the Heart to Heart, Eyelet Border and Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punches as my desert option.  The Very Vintage Jumbo Stampin' Wheel was used for the black on white horizontal piece.  The striped Basic Black DSP is from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack.

The Open Sea - Pop-up Card

I got the knitting needles out for this card.  Using Early Espresso Bakers Twine and No. 8 knitting needles I knitted a garter stitch piece for a fishing net (it sort of looks like a fishing net).

The stamp set used is "The Open Sea", with the sentiment from "Teeny Tiny Sentiments".   Hemp Twine was used to make the sailors knot, I found a great tutorial here on how to do this.  The lifeboy I made using the 1 3/8" and 3/4" circle punches, Not Quite Navy Stampin' Write Marker and Early Espresso Bakers Twine.  The other embelishments were made from the stamps in "The Open Sea", Neutral Brads and Game Spinner Hands.

Cardstock is Soft Suede, Whisper White and Crumb Cake with Well Worn Designer Series Paper.

Just Add Ink #127 - Colour Combo

Just Add Black and White and ONE other colour of our choice is the challenge this week at Just Add Ink.  I have chosen Basic Grey as my other colour.

The sentiment is from the stamp set "Sincere Salutations" and the "Very Vintage" Jumbo Stampin' Wheel was used to create the black on white patterned paper.  The DSP is from the Neutrals Paper Stack.

Simply Stampin' Challenge Theme Week - Vintage

The theme challenge this week at Simply Stampin' Challenge is Vintage.  You just have to love a Vintage inspired challenge.

I have used stamp sets "Vintage Vogue" and "Sincere Salutations" with a colour scheme of Crumb Cake, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy, Beau Chateau DSP and Neutrals DSP Paper Stack.

The Crumb Cake background was stamped with the Vine and Leaf stamp (not sure how to describe this one) from the "Vintage Vogue" stamp set.  The sentiments is from the "Sincere Saluations" stamp set, which I stamped in Night of Navy on a piece of stamped Crumb Cake, I like the finish this gave the sentiment as it took that stark look away.

The flowers were made using the 5 Petal Flower punch and Boho Blossoms Punch and the brads in the flower centres are from the Vintage Trinkets.

I hit a bit of a snag in that I wanted to use Navy ribbon on my card, you guessed it with all the hundreds of metres of ribbon I have I did not have any Navy.  White Organza Ribbon colored with Night of Navy solved that problem.  It is not quite as dark as I wanted, but I was pleased with the finished ribbon, it has quite a nice shimmer to it.

The final finish for the card is lots and lots and lots of ink on the edges of all the pieces and some Faux Stitching around the Crumb Cake background (this is a bit wonky but I think it adds to the charm of the Vintage card).

Freshly Made Sketches #43 - Fifth Avenue Floral

I used a new technique for me on this card, using bleach to take the colour out of the cardstock.  France Martin has a great video tutorial on how to do this.  My colouring is a bit wonky, which did not show up until the bleach had dried and taken the colour out.

The challenge this week at Freshly Made Sketches is based on the following sketch:

Colour scheme is Real Red, Basic Black, Basic Grey and Whisper White.  Stamp sets are "Fifth Avenue Floral", "French Foliage" and "Just Believe".

Simply Stampin' Challenge #68 - Birthday Wishes

The colour challenge this week at Simply Stampin' Challenge is based on the following colours:

I was shown recently by Debra James on how to make my own Washi Tape, using tissue paper and double sided tape.   To make the Washi Tape I have used on this card, I attached a strip of Sticky Sheet to the tissue paper and rolled the Baroque Border Stampin' Wheel over it using Rose Red ink.

I also used the technique of "Faux Stitching" (I felt too lazy today to get the sewing machine out) to give a bit more definition to my card.

Dynamic Duos #10 - Bold and Sassy Colours

The challenge this week at Dynamic Duos is Bold and Sassy Colours, and the colours are Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive.

I love the colours of Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive together with the Whisper White and the Rich Razzleberry DSP, it looks so pretty.  Stamp set used for the main image is "Elements of Style" coloured with Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive Stampin' Write Markers, which was fussy cut, and the sentiment is from the "Petite Pairs" stamp set.  The Whisper White cardstock was embossed using the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder.

I had another go at making the ribbon bow by using the heat gun on it.  I am getting the hang of it, I did not melt this one or put holes in.

Freshly Made Sketches #42 - "Life is a Matter of Moments"

I am leaving it to the last minute for the challenge at Freshly Made Sketches this week.  I have been trying for 2 days to make a card for this challenge I was not happy with what was coming out.  I decided to go simple with a colour scheme of Whisper White and Soft Suede.

Stamp set used is Elements of Style and the Whisper White cardstock was embossed with the Square Lattice and Finial Press embossing folders.

I had some fun making the bow for this card.  I tried the technique of using the heat gun on the ribbon to slightly shrivel it.  The first two goes I put too much heat on the ribbon and it melted, I worked out less heat is more, dah.

Pals Paper Arts - PPA138 Colour Challenge

Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler are the colours for the challenge this week at Pals Paper Arts

PPA138

I have been keeping a file of sketches that I like as this seems to be a stumbling block for me with colour challenges, where I do not have a sketch to start with and have trouble getting started on creating my card.   This is a sketch that I saw recently in a magazine, it was a very girly, girly card in the magazine but I liked the sketch so in my file it went for future use.

Stamps sets used are "Extreme Elements" and "Happiest Birthday Wishes" with Neutrals
DSP Paper Pack and Attic Boutique DSP.

Mojo Monday #248 Contest

Being the end of the financial year and as I work in the Finance Department of our local municipality I have been a bit busy this week to do any card making.  I have been having withdrawal symptoms big time.  I had a good fix yesterday morning when I got together with my friennds at our Copic Colouring Group.  We had a hilarious time, laughed ourselves silly and we managed to make 5 cards.  What a great stress reliever at the end of the working week.

The contest this week at Mojo Monday is based on the following sketch:

I made the small flowers a couple of weeks ago when I was playing with the Floral Fusion Die, seeing what flowers I could make with it.  I had some left in my stash and the sketch was just perfect for a little group of flowers on the oval shape.  The leaves behind the flowers were punched using the Blossom Petals Builder punch, folded in half and put the the crimper on the diagonal to create the veins on the leaves.
