U Rock

For our next Stampin' Up Card Club challenge we have to design a card based on the Razzleberry Card on page 14 of the new Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue.  I made this card yesterday in trying out my designs for the challenge.  I have used all Stampin' Up products.  The base card is basic black with crumb cake and natural ivory being the other two colours I have used, with black ink for all stamping.

I stamped the music on the card using the Music Notes standard wheel. I then used the big ink splot (that is how I describe it) from the Extreme Elements stamp set to stamp the background underneath the record.  The record was made by punching from basic black cardstock a 2 1/5" circle and a small circle using the circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, and from the natural ivory a 1 1/4" circle.  The natural ivory circle was put through the Square Lattice emobssing folder to give it some texture.   The circles were then layered to create the record (I thought it looked a bit like a target, but it is supposed to be a record to go with the music theme).

The ticket tags were made by cutting natural ivory cardstock 1" x 2" stamping the sentiment and then punching the corners using the 2mm handheld punch.  The lines around the ticket tags were free drawn.  I used the U Rock wording from the Perfect Words stamp set, however I only inked part of the same to use the words that I wanted, the actual stamp is U Rock My World.  The guitar is from the Grunge Rock stamp set, stamped on crumb cake cardstock and cut out.  The ticket tags have been tucked under the edge of the record and the guitar layered up with dimensionals.

Distressed Thank You - The Deconstructed Sketch DS44 & Perfect Sentiments Challenge PSC24

I thought that I had better use some of the roses that I made last week when I found out how to make these beautiful roses using the Fancy Flower Punch from Stampin' Up.  I got a bit carried away at the time and made heaps of these roses using up my scraps of cardstock.

I have made a Thank You card using browns and creams as this toning went with the colour of my roses.  I am entering this card into the following challenges:

1. Perfect Sentiments Challenge  PSC24 where this week the challenge is to make a card with a Thank You sentiment, however the twist was to use some form of distressing on the card, eg. torn paper, roughed up edges, inking, crumpling etc.  I have used torn paper, roughed up edges and inking distressing techniques on this card.

2. The Deconstructed Sketches  DS44 based on the following sketch:

Mojo Monday #233

Well, the weeding did not get done today either.  I had more important things to do, but I did do a few other things besides make cards.  I made 14 bars of lavender soap, measured up my games room to re-organise it into a Creating Space just for me, my washing and finally took my Mum to the doctors, and made 2 cards.  Not a bad days work.  I only have 2 more days of holidays, so the weeding will have to be done soon (the neighbours will run me out of the street soon or the local Council will issue a fire hazard infringement notice on me).

The challenge this week at Mojo Monday is based on the following sketch.

I saw a post recently with these paper roses made using the Fancy Flower Punch from Stampin' Up.  Well I had the punch in my stash of gadgets, so off I went searching the internet on a tutorial on how to make them.  I found the tutorial here.  Naturally I just had to add the finished rose to my card for the challenge at Mojo Monday this week.  I think the finished flowers are just amazing, I made 2 sizes of the flowers and also some little rolled roses to make up the posy.

Freshly Made Sketches #26

I have had this idea for a card floating round for a couple of weeks, but was having trouble putting it together.  The sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches by Jen Mitchell got my inspiration happening,  the finished card is basic but effective.  I have used very vanilla and basic black as my colour scheme, the picture looks white and black, my photography leaves a bit to be desired.

Mojo Monday #232

I got the butterflies, browns and neutrals out again for the challenge at Mojo Monday.  The challenge this week is based on the following sketch.  I cased the idea of the layered butterflies from a card made by Narelle Farrugia.  I loved the effect so just had to incorporate it into my card.

One Layer Card - Apothecary Art

At our Stampin' Up Card Group this month, we have been challenged to make a one layer card.  I have never made a one layer card before and I had several false starts at making one which have since been recycled.   It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be to create a card pleasing to the eye without using layers, pretty paper, ribbon and other emblishments. On my finished card I have used the Stampin' Up stamp set "Apothecary Art" coloured with coloured pencils, embossed the sentiment and used a white gel pen to draw the border with pierced holes in the corners as a finishing touch.

Simply Stampin' Sketch Challenge #49

The challenge this week at Simply Stampin' is based on the following sketch.

I have used all Stampin' Up products on this card,  The stamp set used in "Blessed Mother" with a colour theme of Cajun Craze and Basic Black.   The flower was made using the Bigz L Die "Fun Flowers", I put the second black layer of petals through the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder so that it had dots to match the Cajun Craze DSP used for the other flower layers, an antique brad was used for the centre of the flower.

Freshley Made Sketches #24

The challenge this week at Freshly Made Sketches is based on the following sketch by Rita.

I have been wanting to try to make a card with a sailors knot (this was on my to do list) since I first saw this knot on several cards on Splitcoaster Stampers and also Stampinconnection.  I found the tutorial on how to do this here.  On my first try I zigged when I should have zagged and I when I pulled the ends together it was like magic, all came apart.  I mastered it on my second try.  It definitely gives an ordinary piece of twine a special finishing touch.
